World Wide Trekking (WWT) has led guests to Machu Picchu in Peru for years. Throughout this time we have developed a personal connection with the people, the land, the beauty, and the ways in which we could make an impact. The country of Peru awakens our souls and takes us on a spiritual journey toward growth and inspires us to create a lasting impact on the areas we trek within without doing any harm, it has also become one of our favorite places to bring guests because of the rich culture and vibrant breathtaking views. It has a way of drawing you in and making you fall in love, it’s challenging to narrow down, but here are the top 5 things WWT loves about Peru!
The people of Peru are some of the most culturally in tune we have met anywhere in the world. Their sense of community is tangible, and their welcoming spirit allows you to feel like you’re part of it as well. Their deep historical and cultural roots remain important to them today, and their way of life truly centers around these ideas. We have been lucky enough to develop a strong team of guides and nonprofit leaders in Peru, whom we work extremely close with. We have been able to create treks and outreach projects that allow people to visit Machu Picchu, help bridge gaps between communities, and have life-changing experiences in such a beautiful part of the world. As we travel through the Sacred Valley, we will meet locals, visit shops and participate in cultural traditions, and enjoy Peruvian cuisine. The people are the ones who make it such an enjoyable and rejuvenating experience, the ones who make us want to return time and again to these special lands.
The sanctified lands of Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, safeguard you and offer a sanctuary for reflection and spiritual revival. Surrounded by lush vegetation, breathtaking mountainscapes, and an abundance of natural landmarks, our guests leave “The Lost Land of the Incas” feeling awakened and refreshed. The rich history and emphasis on maintaining cultural roots are ever apparent in the architecture across the country, a real focal point of the trek. The peaks and valleys make it a challenging favorite for hikers, with the topography and terrain changing throughout the trek; within these consecrated lands is bountiful beauty.
The beauty found in Peru is second to none. The colors appear more vibrant, the vegetation lusher, and the atmosphere livelier. The coupling of people and views truly makes it one of the most beautiful places in existence. Visiting the Cusco City Center for a tour will give you a first-hand glimpse at the wonder that exists within Peru and its history. No matter what way you are viewing your experience, you will find so many glimpses of light and positivity around you. From the openness and inclusion you will feel from the locals to the staggering ubiquitous scenery, you will be left awestruck and with images forever engrained in your memory.
Our Human Outreach Project (HOP) strongly impacts the communities surrounding Machu Picchu. In an effort to help build connections between local communities, we have enacted two computer centers along the path to Machu Picchu. Keeping in mind how important this sense of community is, and how strongly they hold on to their culture, we also wanted to create something that would allow them to feel celebratory around the holidays, and ensure the children within the community have an enjoyable season. We sponsor the Chocolatada Festival to give gifts to the local children and host a celebratory gathering for everyone to take part in, with the traditional beverage Chocolatada being central to the event. There are many ways to get involved in all of these projects, and all of the work we are able to do relies on generous contributions from guests.
The culmination of these aforementioned favorites is what gives us our fifth. Living these experiences awakens your inner soul and deepest spirituality, touring ancient lands and enjoying authentic culture and cuisine while hiking through lush, mystical lands is truly a life-changing experience. Our guests make connections with themselves and others, gain a broader understanding of the world through lived experiences, and share a unique journey with newfound friends as they trek to Machu Picchu, one of the most renowned historical sites in the world.
Throughout the journey to Machu Picchu, there is an overflowing of joy and enlightenment.
