Wilderness First Aid Course

Wilderness First Aid Course with WWTrek

Do you love recreating in the great outdoors?  Do you like hiking, biking, skiing, or spending time in the backcountry?  Then this course is for you!  Prepare for the unexpected with this engaging, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine, taught over two days. 

This course is excellent for people of all experience levels and is best suited for those who recreate outdoors where EMS response can be expected in a timely manner (fewer than eight hours). You’ll learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions.

You’ll learn in classroom and outdoor settings regardless of weather, so come prepared for wet, muddy, cold, or hot environments!

Course Instruction

Duncan

Ari Theodore | Course Instructor

Ari is an experienced rescuer and educator with a career spanning lifeguarding, ski patrol, firefighting, and critical care nursing. He became a state-certified Emergency Medical Technician, a professional Ski Patrolman, a backcountry rescuer, a firefighter/EMT, and a Critical Care/ICU Nurse. Currently a Flight Rescue Nurse on a 911 helicopter, Ari teaches courses such as Wilderness First Aid, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support. In his free time, Ari enjoys outdoor adventures with his family, exploring mountains, deserts, and trails around the globe.

Duncan Segger | Assistant Instructor 

Duncan brings a wealth of outdoor experience and a passion for adventure to the Wilderness First Aid team. As a Trip Leader at the University of Utah, he honed his skills in safety management and leading technical outdoor expeditions. A seasoned traveler and former Team USA Luge competitor, Duncan combines adaptability with a deep appreciation for diverse environments. Certified as a National EMT and Wilderness EMT, he is eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for the outdoors while ensuring a safe and engaging learning experience.
